The annual GSMA GLOMO awards at MWC Barcelona recognize the outstanding contributions of organizations that change how people, communities, and businesses interact and evolve in a digital-first world.

This year Huawei took home four awards. So let’s take a look at the winners!

Huawei MetaAAU: ‘Best Mobile Network Infrastructure’

What it is

  • Huawei’s 3rd-gen 5G AAU product comprising MetaAAU and Meta BladeAAU

What it does

  • Improves 5G coverage, capacity, and energy efficiency, making it a top choice for TDD deployment
  • Enables a greener development path for Massive MIMO as the first-of-its-class solution to introduce ELAA (Extremely Large Antenna Array)
  • Boosts network performance
  • Reduces energy consumption by 30% compared with traditional AAUs
  • Improves uplink user experience by 40%
  • Maximizes the value of existing sites in rural and suburban scenarios and achieves continuous coverage
  • Improves indoor coverage
  • Shortens ROI for operators

Huawei FDD Beamforming Series: ‘Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough’

What it is

  • The Huawei FDD beamforming series of products comprising Massive MIMO, 8T8R, and Hertz antennas.

What it does

  • Uses an exclusive intelligent beamforming algorithm to flexibly support 4G and 5G beams
  • Provides up to five-fold spectral efficiency through FDD Massive MIMO, supporting capacity growth in hotspots
  • Tackles issues like 4G congestion and poor indoor 5G experience
  • Increases spectral efficiency by three times with 8T8R, compared with 4T4R
  • Helps operators build ‘experience-based’ networks with upgraded devices
  • Delivers more balanced uplink and downlink 5G user-perceived rates
  • Expands mid-band coverage to better coordinate mid and low bands
  • Enhances experience across all sub-3 GHz bands, increasing investment efficiency for operators
  • Lowers energy consumption

Who’s deploying it

  • 100+ operators around the world

Midea, China Mobile, and Huawei: ‘5G Industry Challenge Award’

What it is

  • The world’s first 5G fully connected factory in the home appliance sector
  • The largest application of 5G in the industry, with the largest number of 5G devices

What it does

  • Uses advanced solutions from China Mobile and Huawei to deliver 5G connections across 15 scenarios, and connects all production links with 5G devices
  • Uses laser point cloud 3D modeling to support high-precision simulation, allowing indoor 5G private network planning to reach a precision above 90%
  • Improves quality inspection efficiency with AI by 10% by using multi-band networking combined with Distributed Massive MIMO to deliver a deterministic uplink capacity of 1 Gbit/s per 1,000 sq. meters
  • Improves uplink capacity by 10% using the world’s first FAB pRRU, which features internal beam adjusting capability
  • Replaces complex cabling between machines with 5G, improving workplace safety
  • Boosts productivity with machines able to operate automatically
  • Slashes the time to produce one washing machine to 15 seconds
  • Increases the number of products directly delivered to customers by 100%
  • Cuts warehouse inventory by 50%
  • Reduces labor costs by 30%

Who’s deploying it

  • Midea Group in its laundry appliance factory in Jingzhou, China

Huawei RuralLink: ‘Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets’

What it is

  • A solution for addressing communication challenges in connecting rural communities (40% of the world’s population is not connected to the Internet.)

What it does

  • Uses microwave fronthaul technology in an industry first
  • Enables rural sites to share the baseband resources of existing base stations so that independent baseband units (BBU) are not required
  • Reduces site power consumption: BBUs are not required and only one RRU and one Channel Expand Antenna are needed to achieve three-sector coverage
  • Supplies the entire site with power using just 4 PV modules
  • Supports 2G, 3G, and 4G, with 5G evolution possible
