Brains and Business: The Innovation Intersection of Academia and Industry
The Digital Leadership Excellence Programme (DLE) is an innovative collaboration developed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Huawei Malaysia that emphasizes leadership, innovation, and sustainable growth in the digital era.
Designed to serve as a springboard for Malaysia’s digital advancement, programme participants derive from the key sectors that drive national digital transformation forward: the government, academia, and industry.
As was the case with the 2024 programme, 2025 saw DLE participants visiting in Huawei's HQ in China's Shenzhen, giving Huawei Blog the chance to interview some of Malaysia's leading industry experts, government delegates, and academics.
In part two of this series, Dr. Saraswathy Shamini Gunasekaran, Director of The Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy at Malaysia's Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) explores:
- How to bridge the gap between industry needs and academic curriculum
- Higher education in the context of achieving Malaysia's Net Zero 2050 goal
- The value of the DLE Programme.
1. Bridging the academia & industry gap
In the field of renewable energy, UNITEN's industry advisory panel focuses the curriculum on actual industry needs.
2. Net Zero 2050 & academia
In collaboration with Malaysia's largest electricity utility company Tenaga Nasional Berhad, UNITEN's Energy Literacy modules educate the general public about renewable energy, carbon credits, and other information about how to power a clean future.
3. The DLE Programme and Collaboration
The value of the DLE Programme in fostering innovation in Malaysia in the context of its current position in the Global Innovation Index. How the DLE Programme works
