Aug 25: Ethio Telecom and Huawei Launch Solar-on-Tower Sites to Drive Green Transformation of ICT Energy

    250822-01

Ethio Telecom and Huawei have successfully deployed the first Solar-on-Tower solution in Africa.

The solution places photovoltaic panels on telecom towers, addressing challenges of insufficient land and space for urban solar power systems. The site generated and used its own solar power within just two days of deployment and the solar power supply can last for up to four hours, reducing diesel generator use from six to two hours – a 40% reduction in fuel consumption per site.

Thousands of sites in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, face space constraints, making it impossible to adopt more energy-efficient technology such as traditional ground-based PV solutions. Solar-on-Tower is the first solution to provide an efficient and feasible path for Africa’s telecoms industry to deploy clean energy solutions in space-constrained scenarios.

Aug 15: Ethio Telecom and Huawei Complete North Africa's First Live Deployment of GigaAAU FDD Tri-Band Massive MIMO

    250815-16

Ethio Telecom and Huawei have deployed North Africa's first-ever GigaAAU FDD tri-band Massive MIMO site, significantly improving Ethio network performance and user experience.

    • 4G traffic has grown by 70%, indicating the network is comfortably meeting increasing demands.
    • Average network speed perceived by users has risen by 68%, enabling smooth video streaming, immersive online gaming, and fast file downloads even during peak hours.

    The solution:

    • Supports 720W transmit power, the highest in the industry.
    • Employs cutting-edge Real Wide Bandwidth and Compact Dipole technologies to integrate three bands (1.8 GHz, 2.1 GHz, and 2.6 GHz) into a single AAU, enabling one-time tri-band deployment without increasing antennas.
    • Uses enhanced intelligent beam scheduling and intelligent beamforming to achieve dynamic beam movement with users and intelligent interference avoidance, boosting network speeds per user by 20% to 30%.
    • Features "0 bit 0 watt" energy saving, with off-peak power consumption near zero.
To date, it has been tested and deployed live on more than 20 networks around the world, earning significant recognition from telecom operators.

Aug 15: Huawei OceanStor A Series Storage Retains Top Spot for Performance in MLPerf Storage Benchmarks

    250815-02

AI engineering consortium MLCommons recently released the results of its MLPerf Storage v2.0 benchmark suite. Jinan Institute of Supercomputing Technology (JNIST) and Huawei delivered notable results, with OceanStor A series storage ranking first worldwide in multiple performance metrics—including performance per storage system, per rack unit, and per client.

For model training, the MLPerf Storage benchmark suite includes the 3D U-Net workload, focusing on GPU utilization and scale-out capabilities. It evaluates how well storage systems can support the computing power demands of large-scale AI clusters. A new addition is checkpointing mode, the industry's first standard test for assessing checkpoint performance during large AI model training. It covers scenarios like resumable training and model archiving.

Huawei OceanStor A Series Storage sets new global record for model training performance, reaching 698 GiB/s

In the bandwidth-intensive 3D U-Net training test, Huawei OceanStor A series storage systems ranked first globally in performance across three categories, while maintaining GPU utilization above 90%.

Aug 14: Huawei Named Sole Leader in GlobalData 2025 5G RAN: Competitive Landscape Assessment

    250814-06

GlobalData has named Huawei a "Leader" in the "5G RAN: Competitive Landscape Assessment" for the seventh consecutive time.

Huawei secured the top spot for its solutions and commercial practices, pulling further ahead by integrating 5G-Advanced and AI. Huawei is the only RAN equipment vendor recognized as a "Leader" this year.

The report rates RAN vendors by five criteria: AAU, RRU, mmWave, BBU, and advanced software features (including energy efficiency).

Huawei is recognized as a leader across all five categories. The report also confirms Huawei as the new benchmark in the field of 5G-Advanced and AI integration.
